Pre-production report (Bad habit)

Pre-production report (Bad habit)

In this project, I developed a behavior-modifying application centered on both mental and physical well-being. It's a fitness app integrated with social features. Recognizing that a segment of the population feels isolated, without a social circle and uncertain about how to engage socially, many tend to remain indoors. Over time, this sedentary lifestyle can lead to both mental and physical sub-optimal health conditions. My aspiration for this app is to improve their daily habits and promote a healthier lifestyle.

This report focuses on user research. In the course of this project, I conducted extensive research on comparable products, identifying their strengths and weaknesses. I further delved into understanding user needs and experiences using tools such as Field Diary, Emotion Boards, Storyboards, Journey Maps, and Persona profiles.

Mental and physical health are essential

This project addresses a pressing concern of our times by merging the domains of physical fitness and social interaction, both of which are paramount for holistic well-being. Integrating social features into a fitness application is not only promoting physical activity but also providing a platform for users to connect, making exercise more engaging and sustainable.

With Field dairy, I've done a side-by-side review of similar programs that encourage walking. From the summary, it's clear that while all these apps aim to improve user fitness habits, they each have a unique approach, ranging from gamified experiences in virtual worlds to traditional, stats-based tracking and advice.

Based on the design of the mentioned applications, a successful fitness app should emphasize a high-quality user experience, incorporate gamification elements to increase user engagement, provide real-time feedback and personalized suggestions, and integrate social features to encourage healthy competition and interaction. Additionally, clear navigation and diverse features are essential for retaining users.

Based on the results of competitive research, I created Persona. It enhances empathy and awareness of user needs, expectations, and pain points, leading to more targeted design solutions. In my Persona, Coco Shis a person who feels lonely yet yearns for social interaction. Due to living alone for a long time, she rarely goes out or exercises, leading to her being in a sub-optimal health condition."

One key lesson learned from this project was the importance of aligning brand identity with business values and goals.

Using user journey maps and storyboards, I deepened my understanding of the user demographic. As a result, I decided to design an app that combines exercise with social interaction. Additionally, mood boards helped me better identify the design style and features. In the end, I chose purple as the primary color for the interface. In many cultures, it also represents creativity, tranquility, and spirituality. In app design, purple can evoke feelings of deep reflection and meditation, making users feel relaxed and comfortable. By comprehensively applying research tools such as competitive product analysis, user personas, journey maps, storyboards, and mood boards, I have gained a profound understanding of the needs and behaviors of the target users. I've identified opportunities and challenges in market competition and learned how to translate user experiences into compelling design narratives. This process not only enhanced my analytical and empathetic skills but also provided a solid foundation for making informed decisions in design. (This report focuses on the research process, so it does not showcase the detailed prototype design process.)
